What is the Explorer's Journal?

The Explorer's Journal of Wonder-Walking is a 200+page, beautifully illustrated, full color journal and guidebook that goes in depth into the practice of Wonder-Walking with detailed card meanings, journal and nature-observation prompts, as well as creative activities to try out in nature.

The Printed Guidebook

It's been my dream ever since the 1st edition deck to have a beautiful printed companion guidebook for diving deeper into the practice of wonder-walking. There's something wonderful about having a physical tome of wonder to refer to and a place to jot down big ideas for re-enchanting your walks and your everyday.

Book-Printing Progress:

Jan 17th 2020 - Copy-editing, proofreading and indexing (maybe) stage
This stage has begun! Getting the book into the hands of a good copy editor for proofreading and (hopefully) indexing of pages has begun! Nothing worse than a beautifully printed book full of typos and grammatical errors.

Jan 31st 2020 - Wanted: A Dream Copy-Editor
Week 3 of the search for a copy-editor goes on, I have moved on to Reedsy and in my second round of requests. I have to admit it's been challenging finding the right copy-editor and the process is taking MUCH much longer than I had planned for, this being my very first book. Just now realizing I should have started the hunt months earlier, had I known I would need one, lesson learned! But, I'm learning so much about the different levels of editing and what it takes to get a book (self) published.

Feb 2nd 2020 - FOUND: Dream Copy-Editor Update! The universe delivered what appears on paper and in email to be the perfect copy editor for this project - someone who's a tarot student, loves nature and nature photography, and art. She has extensive experience in the publishing industry and has worked on illustrated books. Most importantly, she's excited to work on the Explorer's Journal! Stay tuned for more progress!

Feb 8th 2020 - (Almost) ready to print! Print proofing next.
Stephanie, my copywriter has been a DREAM. She has been speedy and responsive and the guidebook is now moving swiftly into printing phase. Even thought copy-editing delayed the printing by a month, it has all been so worth it. I feel much better to have taken care of all the potentially niggling copy issues and an added bonus: to have someone who's already an ideal reader for the book massage it. The book has been re-quoted by the printers, my account with them being set up and I'll be sending the files over next week once the final proofread is done. Then the files will go into print proofing stage - they'll send me hard copies for color check and then the books will go to print. EEEPS! 

I've also decided that this will be a (very) limited 1st edition run of 350 copies!

Feb 11th 2020 - Print Proofing has begun!
I'm about to pay the deposit for the book-printing, the final proofread for printing is underway and the FINAL cover has been designed and it has GOLD FOIL! I'm sending over the Deck to the printers to match colors and keeping all my fingers and toes that things go smoothly. I'm trying not to hold my breath till I get print hard proofs but can't help it, these next stages are crucial!

March 5th 2020 - Pressed the PRINT button!
Rejoice! The PROOF has been approved, after two rounds. For those of you who caught the Insta Story LIVE walkthrough, I had a quibble with some minor cover defects and though I didn't mention it, I wanted the overall body text of the guidebook to be ever so slightly darker for better legibility. It felt worth it to do another round of proofs but the final one arrived today and I am pleased to say - we are a GO. I have told them to start printing. But overall,  I am VERY pleased with the proof, particularly the cover, they have done such a nice job with the gold-foil and debossing. I will know better the timeline once production starts, but this is exciting times, I can't wait for y'all to hold it in your hands!!

March 21th 2020 - Bonus Gift + Shipping Update BONUS GIFT IS FOR BACKERS AND PRE-ORDERS BEFORE APRIL 2020 ONLY.

Hello everyone, I hope you're holding up okay in these dark times. I just realized that in the craziness of the past few weeks where things blew up here in California (we are under Shelter-In-Place) I haven't updated you on the printing and shipping schedule. The printers have given me a 6-8 week production time and we are halfway through the schedule, with their estimate of April 16th shipping out to me. I haven't heard any differently from them but I am bracing for delays with things grinding to a halt all around us. But assuming things go as planned, it takes a few days for your books to get to me since they are US-based. From then on, I'll be shipping them out weekly, batch by batch as there are hundreds of orders. Hopefully, I'll still have my studio assistant's help as she has been unable to come in as her kids are at home with school closure. I'm planning for us to divide and conquer and have her help me from home. 

On the good news side, I have finally decided on bookmarks for your bonus gift! Thank you to everyone who sent in suggestions, I wish I can do them all as there were some lovely ideas, but I had to pick one, and bookmarks were the most-requested. Above is a sneak peak of the full set. I'll be picking two randomly for each backer/pre-order, so it will be a (hopefully) nice surprise which design you'll be getting. They will be printed on thick luxe paper and will likely have ribbons (if supplies are still available to ship).

There is nothing that beats the feeling of this lifelong bookworm thumbing through the pages of her very first book! I am so grateful and hope you'll find much joy and magic within these pages during these strange times!
